Seminar "The Challenges of Higher Education and Research: How to Transform Universities?"

In a context of major social, economic and technological changes, and in the face of local and global challenges such as climate change, globalisation and the crisis of democracy, universities must question their social function and their strategic objectives. What should university education be like at the beginning of the 21st century? How can we promote equity and equal opportunities in higher education? Should the principles of university autonomy and academic freedom be rethought? How can universities contribute to making the UN's 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals a reality? What should the profiles of teaching and research staff be? How can responsible and socially committed scientific research be promoted? These are just some of the questions that higher education systems (and specifically university institutions) will have to answer in the coming years. This Seminar Series of the CUIMPB-Centre Ernest Lluch, organised in collaboration with the Global Universities Network for Innovation (GUNi) and the Catalan Association of Public Universities (ACUP), aims to delve into these and other relevant questions for university and research policy and management. The Cycle is framed in the context of the 3rd UNESCO World Conference on Higher Education, to be held in Barcelona from 18 to 20 May 2022.
