The public universities of Catalonia participate in the Virtual Conference of the EAIE “Community Exchange”

Catalan public universities, together with the other universities in the higher education system of Catalonia, have participated in the Conference of the European Association for International Education (EAIE) "Community Exchange" which was held from 14 to 16 October 2020 in virtual format. Each year, the EAIE organizes the Annual EAIE Conference, which brings together universities from around the world for a week to exchange ideas, learn good practices and discuss higher education policies and internationalization. This conference is attended by around 5,500 visitors from 95 countries and representatives from more than 600 organizations, and is recognized as the leading European event to attend networking events and receive training through workshops, sessions, posters and dialogues on internationalization. of universities such as, for example, policies and strategies, mobility or development cooperation, accreditations, reception, languages ​​and good practices.

The Conference was to be held in person this year in Barcelona, ​​but due to the current situation caused by the pandemic, it has had to be postponed until 2022. The next edition of the Conference will be in Gothenburg, on the 7th. September 10, 2021 with the motto “Bolder. Braver. Go ”.

This year, the virtual format has been quite successful, with more than 1,600 participants from 57 countries around the world. The program of the Catalan university system has included more than 10 sessions on topics such as international programs, virtual mobility, European Universities, and the link between internationalization and social responsibility and commitment.

The Catalan delegation has already participated in previous editions, such as the one in 2019 in Helsinki (Finland), in 2018 in Geneva (Switzerland), in 2017 in Seville (Spain), in 2016 in Liverpool (England, United Kingdom), in 2015 in Glasgow (Scotland, UK), in 2014 in Prague (Czech Republic), in 2013 in Istanbul (Turkey), in 2012 in Dublin (Ireland), in 2011 in Copenhagen (Denmark), in 2010 in Nantes (France) and the 2009 in Madrid (Spain). The attendance of members of the Catalan delegation at events, meetings and presentations of other institutions allows to establish contacts between universities and institutions, and to facilitate the exchange of opinions and the discussion on relevant subjects with regard to the internationalization of the universities. of Catalonia.

The European Association for International Education (EAIE) is an international non-profit organization, founded in 1989. Its main objective is to stimulate and facilitate the internationalization of higher education in Europe and the rest of the world, as well as to provide service to those people actively involved in the internationalization of their institutions. The EAIE is made up of more than 1,800 members, professionals in international education (rectors, teachers and coordinators of international exchanges, among others).
