The rector of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya · BarcelonaTech (UPC), Daniel Crespo; the director of the School of Industrial, Aerospace and Audiovisual Engineering of Terrassa (ESEIAAT) of the UPC, Xavier Roca, and the co-founder and CEO of Grup Construcía, Arturo Fernández, have signed, on January 24, an agreement collaboration to create the UPC-Grupo Construcía Business Chair, based at ESEIAAT.
The aim of the new business chair is to drive and promote knowledge and innovation in the field of the circular economy within the construction sector and the associated industry, a model in which Grupo Construcía is a pioneer. The chair will be led by Professor Núria Forcada and the Director of Transformation, Director of Transformation and Operational Strategies of Grupo Construcía, Francisco Lendínez.
According to the agreement signed on January 24, UPC and Grupo Construcía will promote the Business Chair and the circular economy hub applied to construction.
Construcía, a company founded in 2002 with extensive experience in the construction sector, and which has a team of more than 300 people, distributed between the headquarters in Madrid, Barcelona and Lisbon, has reformulated the production model with its own methodology called Lean2Cradle ® Built. This innovative technology fuses the Cradle to Cradle (C2C) circular economy paradigm with the Lean Construction methodology: everything that consumes resources and does not add value is dispensed with, the entire value chain is involved, ensuring the sustainability and profitability of the project, the price is optimized and deadlines are reduced. This translates into increased productivity and reduced operating costs to add sustainability and profitability.
The business experience in this pioneering methodology in the field of construction, together with the knowledge generated by the teaching and research teams of the UPC in this area of engineering, will generate results that will help the whole sector to orient its activity. with circular construction criteria. And it is that the hub of knowledge in circular economy resulting from this chair wants to be the engine of change of the sector, generating an ecosystem of innovation to promote the knowledge, the transfer and the scientific divulging of the circular economy in the construction.
