Successful Seminar on the Critical and Committed Education at the Universities

Fifty professionals from Catalan universities and Third (Social) sector organizations discussed the Education Development yesterday during a working seminar organized by the UAB Solidarity Foundation (FAS) with the collaboratation of the Association of Catalan Public Universities (ACUP). The aim of the seminar was to find experiences and identify opportunities to introduce Education for Development (EPD) in the university studies curricula, as well as to formulate strategies to promote its transversal and progressive implementation. Throughout the morning, this workspace, participation and exchange between schools, organizations and individuals with diverse careers in the field of higher education, allowed to think how to foster the integration of a more critical and transofrmative spirit in the curriculum of the Catalan public universities education studies. The current scenario of global crisis highlights the urgent need for new paradigms. It is in this context that higher education institutions also face the challenge of revitalizing its role to generate critical thinking and the formation of a socially engaged citizenship. Based on this discussion, the seminar tried to emphasize the need to promote educational activities in university curricula that encourage reflection and knowledge in order to develop models for a fairest, democratic and sustainable society.

The activity is part of the project "Promoting education for development in the current university context" coordinated by the FAS with ACUP and its eight universities, teachers and social organizations, among others, and with the support of the City Council of Barcelona and the Catalan Agency for Development and Cooperation.
