Imma Tubella i Casadevall

Doctor in Social Sciences and lecturer in Communication Theory in the Audiovisual Communications Studies programme at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC). Since 13 September 2005 she has been the Rector of the UOC.

She was Vice President of the Catalan Communication Society of the Institute for Catalan Studies (1995-2003), Vice Rector of research and co-director of the UOC Doctorate Programme (1999-2003), Vice President of the Internet Interdisciplinary Institute -IN3- (1998-2003), member of the Consultancy Committee for Telecommunication and Information Society of the Department of Universities, Research and Information Society of the Generalitat de Catalunya (1998-2003) and President of the Catalan University Summer School Foundation (2006-2007).

She held the position of Director of Studies and Content of the Catalan Radio and Television Corporation (CCRTV) (1995-2002), and was a member of the Administrative Committee of the CCRTV (2000-2004) and was the Press Ombudsman for El Punt (2004).

Never having set aside her research into communication and identity, during the last six years she has co-directed with Dr. Manuel Castells the Catalunya Internet Project research programme, with 66 researchers and 10 projects, and within the programme, she has co-directed research into the network society in Catalonia. She has also directed the research project Communication as a factor of change in the information society: internet in the audiovisual context of Catalonia.

She has published numerous books and articles among which are : Forms of television consumption as a generator of identity, Fundación General de la Universidad Complutense de Madrid, 1998; Network society in Catalonia, with M.
