Kick-off of the European project HEIRRI

The first meeting of the European project HEIRRI (Higher Education Institutions & Responsible Research and Innovation) took place yesterday 16th September in Barcelona. ACUP is responsible for the HEIRRI dissemination plan, which includes the communication and internationalization strategy. Good internal and external information flow, gathering and sharing contents of the Consortium and raise awareness of RRI in Higher Education Institutions are some of its main goals. The working plan will also promote the public presentation of HEIRRI trough international meetings.

HEIRRI aims to integrate the concept of “Responsible Research and Innovation” (RRI) into University careers in science and technology, so that research and innovation meets societal needs, values and expectations.

The kick-off meeting has connected the members of 9 European institutions which participate in the project and has provided an extensive overview of the three years of the initiative. During the meeting, hosted in the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB), the different institutions have discussed the phases of the project, which will promote the application of RRI through six key areas: public engagement, ethics, science education, gender equality, open access and scientific governance.

HEIRRI is lead by Universitat Pompeu Fabra and the HEIRRI consortium is composed by the Aarhus University (Denmark), the University of Bergen (Norway), the University of Split (Croatia), the Institute for Advanced Studies (Austria), “la Caixa” Foundation (Barcelona, Spain), the company Innovatec (Madrid, Spain), the European network of science centres and museums ECSITE (with more than 400 institutions from 50 countries) and the Catalan Association of Public Universities (ACUP, who chairs GUNi, the Global University Network for Innovation, with 208 universities in 78 countries). The project is funded by the Horizon2020 program of the European Commission.
