María José Figueras
María José Figueras, is Professor of Microbiology at the Univerity Rovira & Virgili. Since 1990 she has been working in the field of health-related environmental microbiology (HREM), especially in the contamination of water. She has participated in several European research projects Aqua-Chip, Healthy-Water, Epibathe, Virobathe, Viroclime and Aquavalens. She have been acting as advisor on the management of risk derived from contaminated bathing waters for the Catalan Agency of Water of the Catalan Environmental Department, the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP), the European Commission, and the Spanish Ministry of Environment and the one of Health and Consumer Affairs. She have published over 170 peer-reviewed articles and several chapers, and is the Spanish Ambassador of the America Society of Microbiology.
